We refresh the base client , the one you downloaded, several times a year. What are are experiencing is the client is fetching all the updates since the last client refresh. This is a one time fetch. This ensures that you have a latest version of all components including all bug fixes.
We don’t update the download file for each update because it would add a great deal of time to the testing as we usually have at least one software update each week, sometimes more.

What can I say — the folks that are providing this for zero cost have built it that way. The good news is once done, you have everything you need to play what’s out there. I think that installation is a small price to pay for what is in my opinion the best site available, especially for the money I am paying.

If you had installed the client and run it while on your fast connection, it would have done the available updates at that time. Then you can just copy the brettspielwelt directory to any other machine. Of course, as soon as a new update is available, you will be delayed when you try to login as it is downloaded.
The real problem is that you have a slow modem connection. That is what you have fix to make your internet experience more acceptable, not just BSW.
